One thing that I have found particularly important about starting your own business and working from home is having a routine that keeps you organised. It is very easy to fall onto the trap of laziness particularly when business is slower and you aren’t forced to be as productive as when there are many deadlines to meet. I make sure that I write everything in my diary, no matter how small the task or order, and I make lists to help me prioritise tasks. I think it is very important to find a workflow tool that works for you, even though you are the only one using it. For now. That way, as the business grows, you have already laid all the basic groundwork to expand it to include other people when needed.
So I keep track of my tasks and I get on with what needs to be done. In any job, you would receive a list of tasks that need to be completed or some other sort of schedule. You know what you need to do and you do it. If you are in a management position, you may be the one to create these lists and tasks, and to follow up on their execution. In a one-person business it is the same thing, the only difference is that you are the one giving and also receiving the tasks. You are on both sides of the workflow, so you need to make sure that you create the tasks, and also that you carry them out effectively.
You are in charge of the dream and you are in charge of making it happen. Think big, dream big and make great things happen.
